The Resilience Series
The gable ends of houses along the North East coast have always caught my eye, standing strong against the elements, they feel like quiet symbols of resilience. This small series of oil and cold wax paintings is inspired by that strength and endurance.
Morse code is layered into the paintings, sometimes subtle, sometimes more visible. The idea came from a memory of my father learning Morse as part of a mate’s ticket for a fishing boat. The title of each painting comes from the code.
Long standing gable ends at the edge.
Looking out to the North Sea.
A symbol of resilience.
Dots and dashes of messages sent.
Sound waves dancing in the sea air.
Carried loud by the wind or dimmed by time.
